Ionization and Photoelectric Smoke Alarms

February 1st, 2012

There are two types of smoke alarms: ionization and photoelectric alarms.  Ionization alarms sound more quickly when a flaming, fast moving fire occurs.  Photoelectric alarms are quicker at sensing smoldering, smoky fires.  There are smoke alarms that you can purchase that are both of these in one unit called dual sensor smoke alarms.  Since one cannot predict the type of fire that may occur, it is recommended that a duel sensor alarm is installed so you can be protected against any type of fire.
